In honor of the mother and child, the feminine, let’s take a brief look at the Moon Salutation.

(photo from Laura Cornell)
There are different versions, but this Moon Salutation is based on 16 flowing postures "created by and for women in the late 1980s at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. It balances the more familiar Sun Salutation on physical, psychological, and spiritual levels.” (1) The Moon Salutation cools and calms the nervous system, and is beneficial during menstruation, menopause, and pregnancy. (2)
I personally find that it is a very grounding series of postures that leaves me refreshed and calm. It is a good flow series to practice in the evening or when it is too hot to practice more heat-generating asanas.

ouu- a baby deer! :) very fun!
I also enjoy moon salutations, although I haven't seen this version before- the goddess pose is a fun addition.
I have also heard/read that rolling on your left side after savasana encourages 'feminine' energy as opposed to the right.
Thanks for sharing this one- I'll have to try it today! :)
You lucky duck!!!!
Can I have some of your good karma?
Eco-Yogini: I've only seen the goddes pose in the kripalu tradition. Got to love the goddess pose.
This may be different depending on tradition, but what I've learned is that the left is associated with the feminine energy, the lunar, cooling energy channels, the ida nadis. So poses done on the left activate the left, as does left nostril breathing. The right side is the masculine, the solar, heating energy channels, the pingala. So poses on the right side activate this more, as does right nostril breathing. So poses done on both sides balances these energies, as does alternate nostril breathing.
marisa: passing on the deer-sighting karma to you!
