Wishcasting Wednesday: What Do You Wish to Learn

Another great question from Jamie for Wishcasting. How does she manage to time her questions so well?
Wishcasting Wednesday: What Do You Wish to Learn

This year I began to learn (or relearn) some basic skills: sewing, vegetable gardening, and canning (just made dill pickles this morning). I know I learned many other things, but this is what’s on my mind today. I also learned that I like beets.

But what do I want to learn this Fall and Winter?

I want to learn how to create my own rituals and traditions to celebrate the seasons and holidays in an earth-centered way. I do this all ready, but it tends to be more spontaneous, with no connection from one year to the next, and is a solo effort. I like the spontaneity and solitude, but I would like to find some continuity.
The things I enjoy and connect with the most are the “practical” things, like changing the spice in my tea; gardening; eating seasonal, symbolic, and traditional foods; spending time in nature to observe the changing seasons; making symbolic crafts and decorating; and meditating on the inner and outer qualities of the season--the things that allow me to experience the flow and the rhythm of nature.

Grace, enjoy your traditions as they unfold, and as you wish for yourself, so I wish for you also.

As Graceful Yoga wishes for herself, so I do wish with her.

Last year began our own creating our own Thanksgiving tradition. My husband and I hosted dinner and did it OUR WAY. I'm not sure how those around us felt about it, but we were blessed by the tradition we are creating. We are so looking forward to this year!

I love the "salamander" cloth in your picture...you can't get any closer to earthiness than that. Is it yours?

Mom: the "salamander" cloth is one I've had for a long time. I like that it's earthy too. i just put this alter together last night because i got tired if staring at my bookcase while practicing yoga. And you know I love salamanders! I used the top step from my aerobics stepper that I never use to raise if off the ground.

May you find joy in creating new traditions and celebrations of the seasons. There is a great website I think it is Living in Season by Waverly Fitzgerald I believe, she has some great information.

PS - I love beets also
